Best of 2009 Portrait Contest. ~lorraine marie, family photography seattle

BEST OF 2009 PORTRAIT CONTEST

With 2009 now behind us, I couldn’t think of a better way to reflect on the year gone by than to review the images from the incredible families and individuals I was blessed to photograph…and to bring my favorites here for help in selecting the “Best of 2009″!  It was so hard to narrow it down – many times even within a single session – so please don’t feel hurt if one of your images wasn’t selected for voting. I wish I could have everyone represented.

Details on the contest:

Prize:  The family, couple or high school senior whose image receives the most votes will receive a 16×20 *Float Wrap (see below) of the winning image.

How to Vote:  To cast your vote, please add a comment with your favorite image number to this blog post.  Please include your name when commenting; anonymous votes will not be counted.  Comments are moderated to block out spam, so don’t worry if your vote doesn’t show up right away.  You may also cast ONE additional vote on my Facebook fan page here.

Rules: Only one voting entry per person on the blog (individual IP address – yes, we will be checking!), and one additional vote on Facebook allowed. You may feel free to pass this link along to your family and friends to help you in the voting.:)  The contest will run until February 7th, 2010.

*Float Wraps: Float Wraps provide a great new option to display your photographs in a clean, modern way.  They are created by wrapping the photographic print around masonite (sturdy board)  to create a thin wrap. The print is protected with a laminate and padding is added between the print and the masonite to give the front of the Float Wrap a raised, elegant look and feel.

(Click on the person’s name to find more photos from their session)

Anna Wilke - My favorite is #18 with Paula and the girls :)

Tara Warnock - What if I can’t decided on just one? :)
My vote is #3 Laura and #23 Paul and Lindsey

Jenaya - If the background to number 19 is real, then 19. If it’s fake (cause it really looks fake!), then I choose 15.

Lorraine Marie - Jenaya – the boat in #19 is absolutely real! In fact, I was so excited when we found it at the Inn at Semiahmoo, where Chris and Jen were married. We played around there a lot with pictures of the couple and their bridal party. Definitely some of my favorite images came from that location.

Jennifer Hillel - I have to admit that #19 is absolutely spectacular! BUT … since this is a portrait contest and not a background or cool setting contest, I’m going to have to vote for #16 (and not because I know them). Your new lighting rocks and the b&w with the lighting brings out a great texture and vibe. Mostly, it’s because the look you captured on Zion’s face makes me stop breathing for a second. The way he is positioned under Hylan’s chin, looking at the camera with that sweet expression … priceless! Settings and backgrounds make for great pictures. Capturing people is what makes good portraits (in my opinion).

Kristine Halsey - # 20 of course! :)

Curtis Halsey - I second that!

Jan Koberg - They are all fabulous but I cast my impartial vote for #23, Lindsey & Paul! It captured an amazing moment.

Destiny - Definitely 19! Amazing!

Steve Unfreid - For senior #3; for family #16; for wedding #23. Best of the three?…#3

Annika Stockton - #22 is a keeper

Michele - Voting for Collette!

Lindsey Papac - I’d definitely have to vote for #21!

Josh Papac - I’m going to have to agree with my wife. #21

karen stockton - I have to vote for #22, Andy and Annika!I

Danya Papac - Well of course #21. It is fabulous. The tenderness is palpable. T!anks Lorraine. Your portraits are stunning.

Carole Porter - My vote goes to #22

Katelyn Green - I vote for #21!!

Andrew Vincent - #21!!

Melissa Allam - They are all so good so it is hard to choose, but I really love #19, Chris and Jennifer, wedding. Love the old boat in the backgroud in black and white and the veil just lightly floating in front of her face.

Brian Smith - #22 Andy and Annika is super sweet!

Doug Holsten - Make it #22.

Hylan - I’m told this is called shameless self-promotion, but #16 is simply the best because Zion Max is such a magnificient subject. It’s obvious his grandparents love him, and he is the recipient of their love and affection, perfectly captured by the amazing photographer.

Hali Burton - I vote for #16 – hey I have to! Lorraine, this is REALLY a difficult decision because each and every picture is so good.

Sara Gershwin-Razo - I vote for #16 – Rita, Hylan and Zion!

Sheila Gershwin - #16 Yea for the Slobodkin’s.

Danny Ben-Gigi - I love Rita and family photo. Of course, all bride and grooms are gorgeous, but nothing rivals the happiness of grandma and grandpa.

Elaine - #16. I love the focus on the eyes. Such love shines through!

Eric - #16 – beautiful people
I also really love the contrast in #’s 10 and 11 – these are amazing photos!

Tina - #16 — I love the joy I see on Hylan and Rita’s faces and Zion’s expression of total safety and security in their arms. Lorraine knows how to capture the soul deep within and that moment in eternity which only the snap of a camera can keep for posterity.

Rita Slobodkin - It seems a bit narcistic, but I cast my vote for #16. The love that we have as Bubbie and Sabba for our grandson, Zion, is inexpressible. It can be seen through the lens of Lorraine’s camera. I thank God for this precious gift.

Cecilia - #16 is the best. Of course I am biased because Hylan is my pastor and Rita is his wife. Their little grandson, Zion, is a cutie too.

Marlo - These are all stunningly beautiful – I especially like 3, 6, 7 and 21, but i am voting for number 16 – hylan and rita and zion!

Christina Vicencio - All of the photographs were beautiful, and yes, it is difficult to select just one. I vote for #16 Rita:Family – The photographer was able to bring out the inner joy, the love, and security this family has for one another.

Lois - #16 – shows the simple joy of being together.

sachiko S - #22 is the best! makes me smile.

Tammy Blackseth - I’m voting for #16 – Rita Family. This photo makes you wish you were part of this family. Zion is blessed! I knew the adults in this portrait years ago, and the joy of life and passion for family is as alive in their bright eyes as it was all those years ago.

(If there’s a second place, I adore #18 as well.)

Kathy Miller - Precious! What a beautiful family!!! I vote for #16

Cindy Q - #16 shows the love and closeness that the Slobodkin family share.

Gina - I loved #19…wow, as an artist, I was immediately drawn to the the textures!
While the background is a big factor, if the people weren’t in it, it wouldn’t be the same. So, I think it is a portrait and have to go with it. The black, the white and the color. I love the way her veil goes across her face.

Shelley Clinite - Beautiful and proud Bubbie and Sabba! What a blessing!

Ellen & Harvey Leff - #16 is our favorite. Beautiful subjects who radiate love and a picture-perfect grandson. Great composition and lighting by Lorraine Marie. Great set of photos overall.

Yvonne - #19 beautifully suggests a blissful state of mind isolated from the rest of the world (on a deserted island?) but I am compelled to vote for #16 because Zion is the second cutest little boy I have ever seen.

Herb Stockton - I vote for number 22!

Rachel - #18, the expressions are priceless!

Melissa - #11!

Shoshana Levine - I vote for #16, Rita’s family.

Frieda Maiman - I vote for #16….Beautiful family. Beautiful photo.

Frieda - I vote for #16….Beautiful family. Beautiful photo.

Cathy - I vote for #16. I too have been blessed to know Hylan and Rita (Hylan officiated our wedding 25 years ago). Lorraine Marie truly has captured God’s love and joy that overflows and radiates out of this couple. Zion is adorable too! There are some other fantastic photos here -great photography.

Cindy - Having known Hylan and Rita for 25 years, the joy and love they have for each other and their family, in this case their love toward their sweet Grandson, has been splendidly captured in #16. Your photography is FABULOUS and truly exhibits a divine gift! Amazing how viewing a photograph can bring tears to my eyes as I soak in the graceful beauty of your work. Wonderfully done!

tish - #16 Great generational shot – very gifted photographer!

Sharon Bartmasser - I vote for #16…What could be more beautiful the grandparents and grandchild. (If I may say so…they really are all lovely)!

BETSY - # 16 “A PICTURE OF LOVE”

Dorathy Smith - Most beautiful bride in the world and the most handsome groom in the world. #22

Mari Smith - #22 Is the perfect picture of love!

Kimi Smith - #22, beautiful couple

Kay - Zion, stands out as God’s love personified through the generations with grandparents, Hylan and Rita. Lovely.

Laura is a beautiful young women inside and out!. #21 Josh and Lindsey, again you captured the love between them and her eyes just pierce you. #23 Paul and Lindsey you captured their day in this first meeting, elegant, serene. The shadows, the reflection in the glass, the sunlight streaming through the doors highlighting her dress. I think I am your biggest fan!! Can I split my vote in thirds? if you get down to the end and have a tie between any of these three email or call me and I will pick just one but for now I love them all.
