Website and Blog Facelift

Well, it’s that time again for an “out with the old, in with the new” facelift for our website, blog and even logo. For a long time, I have wanted to bring everything we do under one virtual roof – our portrait work that includes high school seniors, families, couples and grandparents, as well as our wedding photography. I have to say, I love the new look! {BeLoved} – Seattle Portrait Sessions for Couples in Love

A few weeks ago, we unveiled our new BeLoved portrait sessions for couples that love each other, and want to set aside time to have their interactions captured in a beautiful and meaningful way. It really doesn’t matter what stage of life your relationship is in – newly engaged to 50+ years of marriage, we all can benefit from a session focused on bringing the best out in our partner, being intentional in our interactions and renewing the bonds between us. And it can be so fun! That’s why I was so excited to meet with Whitney and Jackson over the weekend. Whitney and Jackson are just starting out on their journey through life together (okay, means that they are engaged to be married!), and there was no holding these two back from sharing the joy, friendship, laughter and love their relationship contains. Just look at these pictures of love and see if you don’t agree!

Certified Professional Photographer – I made it!

It’s always nice to start the New Year with a happy post, so that is what I intend to do. Last year, I studied hard to earn the title of Certified Professional Photographer, a designation given by the Professional Photographic Certification Commission. This Commission is the leading body for certifying imaging professionals, yet less than 2,000 actively working photographic professionals hold this distinction. In order to earn this rank, I had to study for months to pass a comprehensive written examination, and submit a portfolio to be reviewed by the Commission to ensure that I did, in fact, know what I was doing behind the camera! To be honest, the whole process was a little bit daunting, as I’d heard so many stories of others who had tried and failed on their first attempt. However, I always love a challenge so this was perfect for me. So in October I took the exam, submitted my work – and by early November I had the good news I was waiting to hear…I am now officially a Certified Professional Photographer!

My reasons for becoming certified were quite simple – for one, I wanted to let my clients know that I care deeply about my craft, and that I work hard to do the very best I can to take care of them and their photographic needs. Since earning this title is no small feat, I’m glad that it show commitment and dedication on my part to the art of photography. Secondly, as I am asked to speak more frequently throughout our community in the Seattle area, I wanted people to have confidence in my knowledge and understanding of photography, as they come to learn from me.

Narrowing down which images would be seen for review was the most challenging part of this process, as I have images from each and every photo shoot that I would have loved to include. However, the rules were quite specific: 20 images, ranging in quantity by the % of work that I do. So with that said, here are the remaining 18 images…enjoy!

A profile pic on her MySpace page with an over-sized box of macaroni-n-cheese. That’s all it took to get Chris’ attention and introduce himself to the girl whose quirky sense of humor fit his own. Fast forward a few years, and Chris and Jennifer are now looking forward to their “happily ever after”, beginning in August 2009.

Residents of Ballard, Chris and Jennifer showed Gabriel and me around their favorite spots as we walked around town. I love visiting new places, and seeing spots that I might have missed just visiting on my own. I especially loved this grunge wall we found down a side street…can you tell?

I think their quirkiness was beginning to peek out here…so fun!

Our session would not have been complete without a visit to the Freemont Troll. I can’t believe this was the first time I’ve ever visited this Seattle landmark. It seems to be quite the popular spot, as we certainly were not alone.

Chris and Jennifer, I hope you liked the preview of your engagement session. You guys did great! We are looking forward to being with you on your big day this August. Blessings!

He remembers well the day they first met…first impressions are hard to forget! Attracted to her warmth, her personality, her easy smile, her sense of humor, Kyle found a friend in Heidi from the very beginning. Their friendship grew and after 18 months, Kyle was ready to ask Heidi out on their first date. He listened to her conversations, and learned she really wanted to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Kyle arranged to get tickets and surprised her with them at Thanksgiving for their first date – a good decision, it turned out, leading to the beginning of good times, good love, and a good life together.

Kyle and Heidi have a connectedness with each other that is simple and lasting. They share the same sense of humor, the ease of laughter, the same zeal for life. We decided to head out for Alki Beach and the Seattle Center for their engagement shoot. Kyle and Heidi, these are for you!
