Well, it’s that time again for an “out with the old, in with the new” facelift for our website, blog and even logo. For a long time, I have wanted to bring everything we do under one virtual roof – our portrait work that includes high school seniors, families, couples and grandparents, as well as our wedding photography. I have to say, I love the new look! Seattle Senior Pictures for the Class of 2012

If you’re a follower of mine on Facebook (and if you aren’t yet, I hope you join us!), you’ve already been introduced to these fabulous faces of the first of our senior model reps for the Class of 2012. Juniors – has it hit you yet that in just a few short months, you will be the seniors ready to rule the school? Trust me when I say that these days will fly by quickly, and before you know it, it’s time to make plans for summer and choose who you want to be your senior photographer. It’s an important decision – and it can be confusing! That is why we at Lorraine Marie Photography take the time to talk with each senior who calls or contacts us, so that we can help you explore what you want most out of your senior portrait experience, and how we can best provide those stunning images you’ve always wanted. Not only have we mastered the art of available light photography, but because Gabriel ( my husband, business partner and best friend) and I work as a team, we can bring other lighting options to give you variety in your senior pics.

Having been a senior portrait photographer in the Seattle area for more than six years has given me the knowledge of what seniors what, the lowdown on some pretty awesome locations (if you’re stuck on where to go), and the ability to relax with you and make your session completely fun, spontaneous and enjoyable – while helping you to look your best and be your truest self. After all, isn’t that what we all want?

Kaitlin’s Best Senior Photos at the Kirkland Waterfront Marina Park

There are some people whose smile can brighten a room, and Kaitlin is definitely one of those people! It’s hard to catch her without a smile as that is just part of who she is. Kaitlin’s senior photo session was very relaxed and fun as we walked around downtown Kirkland to some of my favorite spots – the stone wall near Heritage Hall, the waterfront, and the marina. Here are some of the best photos (and Kaitlin’s favorites!) from her senior session.

Certified Professional Photographer – I made it!

It’s always nice to start the New Year with a happy post, so that is what I intend to do. Last year, I studied hard to earn the title of Certified Professional Photographer, a designation given by the Professional Photographic Certification Commission. This Commission is the leading body for certifying imaging professionals, yet less than 2,000 actively working photographic professionals hold this distinction. In order to earn this rank, I had to study for months to pass a comprehensive written examination, and submit a portfolio to be reviewed by the Commission to ensure that I did, in fact, know what I was doing behind the camera! To be honest, the whole process was a little bit daunting, as I’d heard so many stories of others who had tried and failed on their first attempt. However, I always love a challenge so this was perfect for me. So in October I took the exam, submitted my work – and by early November I had the good news I was waiting to hear…I am now officially a Certified Professional Photographer!

My reasons for becoming certified were quite simple – for one, I wanted to let my clients know that I care deeply about my craft, and that I work hard to do the very best I can to take care of them and their photographic needs. Since earning this title is no small feat, I’m glad that it show commitment and dedication on my part to the art of photography. Secondly, as I am asked to speak more frequently throughout our community in the Seattle area, I wanted people to have confidence in my knowledge and understanding of photography, as they come to learn from me.

Narrowing down which images would be seen for review was the most challenging part of this process, as I have images from each and every photo shoot that I would have loved to include. However, the rules were quite specific: 20 images, ranging in quantity by the % of work that I do. So with that said, here are the remaining 18 images…enjoy!

When Brianna and I started talking about her senior session, I knew it was going to be great. Brianna is an incredible artist with a talent for design, and those were definitely two things I wanted to bring out in her session. We decided on the Olympic Sculpture Park for the first part of her senior pictures, for the beautiful environment and outdoor feel. It’s a place that just screams the perfect location for senior photos with the water, logs, and interesting sculptures. However, that wasn’t enough – an editorial session back at the studio where she spent so much of her time was in order. I loved how her photos turned out – down to the very last one.

Julia and I met up in July for her senior photo session at Golden Gardens – always a favorite location, and rightly so. The day was perfect for senior pics – a slight breeze, the warm sun, surf, sand, mountains, grasses, and a grove of trees – a perfect set-up for creating memories that would last. This first image was taken in the tunnel – an ever-changing landscape, depending on which graffiti artist was most recently there.

We ended up using this image for Julia’s head shot photo, as she is a young actress and needed a headshot for casting calls and auditions. I think she’ll be extremely successful with her strong talent and memorable photo.

I LOVED photographing Maryam for her senior photos. First of all, she had on the most adorable dress she picked up in a boutique shop in Paris – how chic is that? It fit her beautifully, and was an excellent choice. Maryam is a talented young actor to boot, so getting great expressions was a breeze. Here are Maryam’s favorites from her senior session..enjoy!
