Well, it’s that time again for an “out with the old, in with the new” facelift for our website, blog and even logo. For a long time, I have wanted to bring everything we do under one virtual roof – our portrait work that includes high school seniors, families, couples and grandparents, as well as our wedding photography. I have to say, I love the new look! It was a beautiful and intimate setting for Erin and Alex’s wedding day at Willows Lodge in Woodinville. Every detail was executed to perfection: from the beauty of the flowers and decor, a wedding ring so exquisite and charming, a bride that was glowing and a groom that couldn’t be happier! Erin and Alex were blessed to be surrounded by two wonderful families and supportive friends who are committed to seeing their marriage grow in love. It wasn’t easy getting everyone together due to the recent winter storms over the nation, but all the guests (and the bride and groom!) made it and the day went off just as planned…perfectly!

Erin and Alex, thank you for inviting us to participate with you on your wedding day so that we could capture your moments and help preserve the memories of this special time – for you, for your families, for your friends, and for your children yet to come. Best of Rehearsal Dinner Photos at Chateau St. Michelle

It’s a special privilege us to photograph the wedding rehearsal dinner for a bride and groom…a time for families to develop their new connections to each other, reflecting on the years that brought them to this point and the big day to come. Alex and Erin hosted their rehearsal dinner at the beautiful Chateau St. Michelle Winery in Woodinville. The room was gorgeous, the staff attentive and friendly, the food beautifully presented and the atmosphere a perfect stage for relaxed conversation and sentimental toasts.

It’s disappointing that the winery doesn’t offer wedding services any longer – my daughter Alyssa is going to be unhappy when she learns this fact. She thought the winery would be the perfect place to get married. Who knows? Maybe by the time she reaches that place in life, the winery will be a wedding venue once again!

Certified Professional Photographer – I made it!

It’s always nice to start the New Year with a happy post, so that is what I intend to do. Last year, I studied hard to earn the title of Certified Professional Photographer, a designation given by the Professional Photographic Certification Commission. This Commission is the leading body for certifying imaging professionals, yet less than 2,000 actively working photographic professionals hold this distinction. In order to earn this rank, I had to study for months to pass a comprehensive written examination, and submit a portfolio to be reviewed by the Commission to ensure that I did, in fact, know what I was doing behind the camera! To be honest, the whole process was a little bit daunting, as I’d heard so many stories of others who had tried and failed on their first attempt. However, I always love a challenge so this was perfect for me. So in October I took the exam, submitted my work – and by early November I had the good news I was waiting to hear…I am now officially a Certified Professional Photographer!

My reasons for becoming certified were quite simple – for one, I wanted to let my clients know that I care deeply about my craft, and that I work hard to do the very best I can to take care of them and their photographic needs. Since earning this title is no small feat, I’m glad that it show commitment and dedication on my part to the art of photography. Secondly, as I am asked to speak more frequently throughout our community in the Seattle area, I wanted people to have confidence in my knowledge and understanding of photography, as they come to learn from me.

Narrowing down which images would be seen for review was the most challenging part of this process, as I have images from each and every photo shoot that I would have loved to include. However, the rules were quite specific: 20 images, ranging in quantity by the % of work that I do. So with that said, here are the remaining 18 images…enjoy!

It’s always a special honor to be invited to photograph a wedding, and even more so when there is a long-lasting connection to the couple. Gabriel and I were honored to photograph Angie and her husband Tyler this weekend. We’ve known Angie’s family long before she was born, and watched her grow from the most beautiful toddler I’ve ever seen into the most beautiful bride. Their day was filled with so much color, laughter, joy, friendship and love, and it was so sweet to share in that time with them.

Alyssa captured this beautiful portrait of Angie while we were upstairs in the master bedroom for window light shots. I love it!

Another shout-out to Alyssa’s creative eye on the shoe-shot below. Good job!

Just one of the many benefits of working as a team at weddings. While I was capturing the full group jumping shot, Gabriel was able to get in close for some great expression shots of the bride and groom. Fun!

Geanina and Vasi had a beautiful wedding day from start to finish. This was the second Romanian wedding Gabriel and I have photographed, and it was so cool to see another culture’s traditions in the ceremony. I actually felt quite at home photographing their celebration, as I grew up with a Russian heritage – there are quire a few similarities in the Eastern European cultures. Geanina had her schedule down to perfection, so we were able to spend quite a bit of time before the ceremony at Carillon Point in the morning, and after the reception at Newcastle Golf Club for some sunset shots. We’re going to be able to make a beautiful album for them, and I’m excited to do the design. Enjoy!

Gretchen and Garrett’s wedding day was filled with beauty all around – from the beauty of their surroundings at Broadmoor Golf Club and ceremony at St. Luke’s in Bellevue, to the beauty of the perfectly warm day, and especially the beauty of the love of family and friends, their day lived up to all they had hoped and expected. Such a great way to start off married life!

I love it when our wedding couples end up with a beautifully designed wedding album. As much as couples have good intentions to use those image disks and be creative, it can’t compare to the richness and beauty and lasting quality of a well-designed and professionally constructed wedding album. We are so happy to work with the best wedding manufacturers around. In fact, we scoured the globe to make sure we deal only with the best!

So here are a few examples of the latest album that we were so proud to deliver. Charity and Paul chose our Classic Album for their wedding memories, with matching parent albums as gifts.

I loved that these new matching parent albums not only include the same beautiful leather and image covers, but also the fun flip-out pages that we include as part of the design.

The page are bound with special corners and edging to prevent damage and preserve the album for years to come.

If it hadn’t been for the instance by Stephanie’s sister Traci that she get out of the house and go to a party one night, Stephanie might never have found her Prince Charming and had her happily-ever-after. Isn’t that what little sisters are for? The entire family was just as thrilled when these two came together, and Saturday’s wedding between Ben and Stephanie was a beautiful celebration of love and family.

After tallying the 427 votes that came in through this blog and Facebook, Josh and Lindsey led the pack with 98 total votes for the win. Congratulations you two! Josh and Lindsey will receive a 16×20 metallic canvas float wrap of their winning image, thanks to the support of their family and friends. Woot!

Not far from the top was #3, Laura’s senior image coming in second place with 79 total votes. Because she did such a good job of rallying her troops, we decided to include a 2nd place prize of an 11×14 mounted print for Laura of her model-icious senior portrait. Congratulations, Laura!

Rounding out the top three was #16, Hylan and Rita with their grandson, Zion, gathering 66 votes. They deserved to be rewarded as well, so they are receiving an 8×10 mounted print of this beautiful family moment.

We couldn’t leave it with just the top three taking home something special, without also acknowledging five other contestants who each received more than 20 votes each on their images. So bringing home “Honorable Mentions” and a 5×7 print of their selected image are: #9, Acacia with 37 votes; #18, Paula with 36 votes; # 20, Curtis and Kristine with 22 votes; #6, Traci with 20 votes; and #22, Andy and Annika with 20 votes.
